MOLINE, Illinois (KWQC) - The Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Lyft to offer free rides to vaccine clinics. The chamber says they’ve noticed a decrease in the numbers of minority populations getting vaccinated and hope free rides to vaccine sites will encourage more to get the shot.

“We wanted to ensure there was access to the vaccine and that everyone was able to get it and that was not a barrier in their way,” says Janessa Calderon, Executive Director of the Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

According to the CDC, Hispanic and Latino populations are at higher risk for hospitalization from COVID-19 than white populations, making vaccines critical for underserved communities.

MetroLINK is also offering free rides using the TransLoc app.

“We know that there is a need and transportation is something that people are looking for who might not otherwise have it and so we are working with other community partners to try to fill those gaps,” says Jennifer Hirsch, Manager of Administration at MetroLINK.

For a free ride to a vaccine clinic through Lyft, download the Lyft app and enter the codes below.

Code 1: USHCCV1 Value per Person: 2 rides up to $25 off each ride (total value of up to $50 on both rides) Valid: Until 12/31/21 Code 2: USHCCV2 Value per Person: 2 rides up to $25 off each ride (total value of up to $50 on both rides) Valid: Until 12/31/21

MetroLINK riders can schedule a free ride using the TransLoc app or by calling 788-3360. You will also need to schedule a return ride after you get your vaccine. More information about MetroLINK’s services can be found on their website.
