Hernan joined the KWQC News Team in August of 2021 as a Multimedia Journalist. Prior to moving to the Quad Cities, he worked as a Newscast Director at WEEK in Peoria, Ill. During his time there he directed the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Growing up in Morris, Ill. and competing in speech and debate, Hernan realized he wanted to tell stories when he grew up. He went on to study at Bradley University graduating with a B.S. in Sports Communication in May of 2021. At Bradley, he wrote for the university's newspaper, The Bradley Scout, and reported for BUTV student news. While his degree was focused on sports, he loves getting to know people and telling their stories in any setting.
While in college, Hernan completed internships with Fox Sports and ESPN. He also freelanced with NBC Sports for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Although a casual sports fan, he hopes to one day work on any kind of sports documentary.
When not at the station, Hernan enjoys spending time cooking, playing video games with friends and playing tennis.
